How to Take Care of Delicate Fabrics?

How to Take Care of Delicate Fabrics?

During the wedding season, women pull out some of the nicest clothes. You see them wearing silk, a delicate fabric that was designed with a lot of flair and sprinkled with sequins. Although these clothes are fancy, it does not mean these women are into high fashion.

Clumsiness can take over during an event and the clothes may have wine, food, or other fabric stains on these gorgeous dresses. These situations will give you a headache when you decide to clean your clothes by yourself.

Delicate fabrics come with tags that you can only hand wash or dry clean them. However, if you want to put them in the washer because it saves you time. Then, you should heed to the following rules to make sure that the nice party dresses you throw in the washer won’t come out like rags or throwaways once you’re done.

  1. Delicate fabrics usually have fancy trims. Make sure that they are sewn tightly on the fabric to make sure they don’t separate during the spin cycle. Examine every part of the dress to make sure that all the sequins and other accessories don’t get tangled up when you wash them. If they dangle around, then, it’s safe to assume that they’re fragile for the washer.
  2. The mesh bag is your friend. It allows you to protect your fancy dresses from that harsh washing machine spinner and it keeps it from tangling up with the other clothes you wash it with.
  3. For really delicate fabrics like chiffon and silk, turn the wash cycle to a gentle setting and use mild soap so you don’t ruin the dress. Spin them for only a couple of minutes and don’t dry them under direct sunlight.
  4. Once you’ve gone through the first three rules in your head and you’re still afraid your fancy dress might get damaged in the washer. It’s time to follow your instinct and heed the services of a dry cleaner you trust to clean your clothes.

It’s as simple as that. You can also check out other methods of caring for different types of fabrics so you can find different remedies to your washing dilemmas at home. Make sure you read up before you turn that dial on your washing machine.
